Part of the Reflections collection, Echo began as a hand-drawn rectangle, kept slightly uneven so the line still feels hand-drawn. Three slits of different sizes cut through the form, opening it up to negative space. Some people see surfboards; others see something else entirely.
The face is hand-painted teal paper on birchwood. Inside each slit, a flash of neon yellow appears, and the outer edge is painted deep blue, revealing the form's side profile.
The form is displayed on a wood-and-steel stand, connected by a visible magnet where it meets the steel wire. The magnetic pull and the small click as it locks into place are part of the piece itself. Because of that connection, the form can turn, shift, or hold still, so it keeps changing with the light, the shadow, and the angle you view it from.
